Fire is a controversial topic in our savannas, despite its inevitability. We will investigate the impacts of different fire histories on ecosystem processes and biodiversity in woodland on dystrophic soils at the arid end of the range of this type of vegetation. The Waterberg Plateau Park (WPP) provides a valuable study area for this research as the fire history is fairly well known.

The discussion on the study will be lead by Dr. Dave Joubert (the Principal Investigator of two SASSCAL tasks), Professor Jill Heaton and Professor Heather Throop (Fullbright Fellows from USA in the field of ecology), Dr. Caroline Stolter (an ecologist from Hamburg University) and Mr. Kai Schuette (an entomologist from Hamburg University).
