Neotypes: Nambowa Malua Explores Totemic Systems and Modern Mindsets

Through this body of work, Malua reflects on how ancient structures—once guiding ritual, kinship, and worldview—are being questioned, adapted, and reconfigured within contemporary life. As traditional norms shift and evolve, new mindsets and modern rites emerge, giving rise to what the artist terms Neotypes: hybrid forms of cultural, psychological, and symbolic expression that speak to both inheritance and innovation.

The exhibition invites viewers to consider how heritage is not static, but continuously renegotiated. Totems, symbols, and archetypes become sites of dialogue—where ancestral knowledge intersects with digital realities, modern psychology, and personal identity. In this space, past and present do not oppose one another, but interact, collide, and co-create new meanings.
