Atmospheric aerosols are tiny suspended particles which originates from various naturally from the oceans and arid lands, and from vegetation, as well as from human activities such as traffic, industries and mining.

Depending on their origins, and the time they spend in the atmosphere, aerosol particles may contain compounds which are harmful to health or the environment, or nutrients which sustain the marine and terrestrial ecosystems.

They can also act to counteract the warming by greenhouse gases, and form clouds. All these effects are important for the air quality and climate of Namibia, a climate change hot spot, but they are currently unknown.

This presentation will introduce these concepts and running projects to increase knowledge and awareness on those pressing questions.
