Caroline arrives in a village in the south of France.  She must organize the funeral of her mother, with whom she had little contact.  She is greeted by the fickle Pattie, who tells her all her sexual experiences with the men in the area.  

As the whole valley prepares for the famous festivities of August 15, the body of the deceased disappears suddenly.
